Barefoot Mile

Someone at our church organized a Barefoot Mile walk to bring awareness to the very real problem of Child Slavery and to raise money to rescue children.   Dr. Jeff Brodsky runs JOY international and has been going barefoot for nearly 5 years as he goes about the work of rescuing children and bringing awareness to this problem.

The older 5 kids (except one that had an injured foot) walked barefoot (as did Rob and I).   Miss C walked the mile with shoes on.   Not a peep or complaint in the bunch.  I'm thankful God has given my children compassion for, and a desire to serve "the least of these."

"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:40

We were thankful that the weather cleared for this.  It had been raining for weeks, but we had a bright sunny morning.  By the time we got home the sky was pouring buckets again.

Gloomy rainy days...

We've had gloomy rainy days for most of the last couple of weeks.  Our tiny house was feeling smaller by the day, and then......

The basement seeped and leaked (after a week of steady, heavy rains...the water just had no other place to go) making that part unusable as we pulled up carpet and got it all dried out....
The boy's room.  Yea, they're all packed up for the move!

Then the cat had kittens in the girls room.  We had to block that off to keep the little ones from going in there to mess with them....

....and we're packing up to move to a house that is truly a gift from God (more in another post).

The house was getting smaller by the day.  We were all getting on each other's nerves.  So, when I announced at breakfast that we'd be heading to the library to return books and just get out of the house (taking a break from packing/move prep)...the older kids conspired to plan something else.  Could THEY help pay for build-a-bears for the little kids if we went to the mall instead?

Smart Mr. S brought skipbo to play.  I had fun playing a couple of games with these guys.

Now my house is full of resting littles and contentedly occupied big kids.  Sometimes you just gotta get out of the house and play a bit. :)

A rainy day project

It's been raining buckets today; making it a great day for some projects.  The weather HAD been beautiful and kids HAD been asking about getting their spring/summer clothes out.  We pulled some of those out and cleaned out some closets today.  Miss J had worn holes in most of her jeans.  Today was the day for the project I was eyeing!  I asked the girls to pick fabric that they wanted their's hemmed with and we got started.
It is so much fun seeing the differences in styles Miss J and Miss C choose.  Miss J just had to have the floral jeans hemmed in camo, while Miss C loved a pink rose fabric.

I love getting to work on projects with Miss E.  She asked if she could help, and then ended up taking over and finishing while I was otherwise occupied.

Now we'll just wait for it to warm up again. :)
